In
the past year I have done book reviews of nearly a hundred small press,
university press and self-published books. It is a great achievement
to have a book of your own published but many of these could have used a
good outside editor. Unlike writing a magazine article, with a book you
have to live with the results for years, and the only thing worse than not
getting it published is having to pick it up when it is published and wish
you had taken that extra effort to make it as good as possible. Click on
the headings above for details on how you can get the help you need. Let
me be your behind the scenes resource for writing success. - John
“I
thought your presentation Making Good Writing Great was
fantastic. Patrick Lobrutto, a senior editor from Bantam, said he
thought the address “brilliant” and
literary agent Georgia Hughes, formerly an editor from Harper
San Francisco, complemented it as, “entertaining, inspiring and
extremely helpful for writers of all levels of ability.” This is
high praise from leaders in the writing profession who not only
appreciate good writing and effective speaking, but attend many
conferences in the course of a year and are able to make such
comparisons."

“Super
job at the UW-Madison Writers Institute! Comments on the evaluation
forms included: “Really taught us how to write. John Lehman was
helpful. He addressed the important elements of writing very clearly
and concisely.” “John Lehman conveyed the material graphically,
a great speaker.” “Best presenter with a real magnetism and
solid information. Dynamic, clear, informative. John Lehman’s was
by far the best workshop for me. His information flowed and he was
enthusiastic and full of wonderful wisdom.”
